The Top of Beijing

May 26, 2009

Recently, i was at the top of the famous CCTV tower in Haidian district of Beijing. The tower looks like a giant sewing needle pointed straight into the sky. As you ascend the 300 meters to the top your ears begin to pop and that’s when you know this isn’t just a normal building. After getting off the elevator you find yourself at the top of Beijing and looking down on one of the largest cities on Earth. You can walk in a circle around the whole tower and every direction is breath-taking. In every direction for as far as you can see is only city. Sky-scraper after sky-scraper, this city goes on and on and on. It’s a beautiful sight. It’s a frightening sight as well. To know that among all of that brick and mortar, concrete and chaos, you are there. You are standing among it all. Suddenly, you are very tiny. It’s sobering to stand on top of a city like Beijing. It always brings me back to the reality that there is a lot more to this world than just me.

  1. It made me realize how very lost someone could be in that massive city. Pretty sobering thought.
