A New Office

October 30, 2009

I found this slick cafe that sits in my backyard. It’s on a small bustling alley. Just outside the door are men selling blankets from their van, women popping popcorn on small 3-wheeled carts, a guy selling dead flowers, and hundreds of people meandering around. They’re all going somewhere or doing something i suppose, but it all seems so aimless from my limited perspective. From the street, this small cafe looks like just another bakery, but on the inside it’s a warm oasis of free Internet and decent coffee. The warmth and coziness could easily put me to sleep. The desserts from the cafe are not bad, but not great either. I bought a bag of cookies yesterday and only ate two. Today i’m sitting in my chair wondering how such a quaint place came to be on this street. The guests here are busy on their computers and, like me, they look as though they’ve found Beijing’s best kept secret. Most of them are studying, some are reading, others are talking. There is work for me to do, but i find myself daydreaming. Remember when we talked about how dreams come true? I’m daydreaming some new dreams today. I don’t know how to tell you about it yet, but when i figure it out, i’ll let you know.
