More from the banquet

Many people have still been asking about the banquet so i thought i’d make a post to explain a little about what happened, why it happened, and more about what we ate.

What we ate:
The food was amazing and semi-exotic. Many of you saw the video of the turtle, that was delicious. Unfortunately, i have no idea what the names are of all of the dishes. I know i had some really good chicken, some good shrimp, an egg, some sweet jello like substance that was very good, and a lot of other great dishes. Sorry this is vague, but it’s hard to explain.

What we did:
These banquets have a very formal feeling to them. There’s a right and wrong way to do everything. Basically, i just take my cues from the chinese people around the table. Even when you walk in the room there is a right and wrong place to sit and it’s best to just wait to be seated. The school president gave a few toasts and the dean of the foreign language department gave a couple of toasts as well.

Why we did it:
We had the banquet because it is the end of the school year here in Qufu. Most schools will have these type of banquets at the end of every year.

I’ll put one more picture for you, but you can also go to the Photos page at the top and see a few more from the banquet.

What a lovely setting and yes, it looked very formal. The food looked very good especially that picture of the shrimp dish- I would like that. Thanks for putting those on line. Miss you a bunch!

    Turtle scampi……really?
    Was it fatty or lean?
    I’m really interested.
I fed some bread to turtles outside a BBQ place the other night. I ate ribs though. Oh well.

You tried more not-traditional Chinese food than a Chinese like me!

By the way, I got my dreaming intern the week after you leave.
