New Tunes

June 11, 2008

Living in China brings on extra difficulties in staying hip. I put some people in america in charge of keeping me up on pop culture, music and movies, but i have yet to hear from them on these subjects. (where are you guys at??) So, with that being said, i went on my own and found some cool new music to download today. Check it out…

The Album Leaf: In A Safe Place
Great album. Very melodic. Perfect music for reading, traveling or relaxing.

Bryan Karas: Cambridge Songs
I’m loving this guy. His music sinks in deep and allows me to ponder life. This is good music for journaling, traveling, people watching or reading.

** coming up next: When vimeo gets its act together then we will have video podcast #six. Come back later.

*** what’s cool new music/movie/book should you tell me about since i’m so disconnected from modern america?

  1. Jon Foreman (the lead singer from Switchfoot) has put out 4 EPs on his own: Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer. Summer just came out and it’s fantastic. Seriously, you need to check these out. myspace.com/jonforeman

Death Cab just had something new come out.
Coldplay almost has a new album up.
And Tenth Avenue North is an incredible band with a new album out, too. :)

  2. Rachel…
You, my friend, are a wealth of knowledge in the world of new music. Thanks so much for your help. I have actually heard of the Jon Foreman albums, but i keep forgetting to download them. Thanks for the reminder. Also, i heard about the Death Cab album, but i wasn’t impressed with what i heard (i’m a huge fan of the other albums though). I’m not sold on Coldplay yet, maybe the new album will push me over the edge into being a fan. Tenth Avenue North… heard of them, but haven’t heard them… i’ll check into it.

    Thanks again, you rock. Literally.

  3. Well then…you are welcome! I’ll send you more recommends as I think of them.

I agree on the Death Cab/Coldplay analysis. Jon Foreman is where it’s at, really. I think he’s wrecked me for life.

  4. Music? While I’m close to Austin, I not as big of a music junkie as I wish I could be. Movies? Haven’t been in a while… and books? Not so much modern America, as I am reading through classics this summer & just finished Little Women. And yes, I knew what happened and yes, I still had to hold back tears. I’m ridiculous. :)
